Not Just Pretty: Loving Yourself Beyond The Mirror

1

You’re a straight-up hun - a hottie with a body.

Sure, the status quo about what's hot and what's not keeps changing; One minute it's slim-thick, the next it’s early 2000s heroin- chic again. Your face must be glowing, but not too oily. Your bum must be big, but your arms must stay small. Stretch marks? Taboo. But also… trendy? It’s exhausting, mahn.

And in all that noise, it’s easy to start thinking the way you look is a mistake.

It’s not.

Where Did All This Body Drama Even Come From?

This didn’t start with you. It started with people who made money from our insecurities - diet pills, skinny teas, shapewear, surgery, filters. That’s the game. Make you feel bad, then sell you the fix.

So don't blame yourself when you feel like you’re not enough. Blame the system that profits from keeping you unsure of your own beauty.

We’ve been taught to spot “flaws” instead of recognising real bodies. Real arms. Real stomachs. Real skin. Your skin.

Reclaiming Confidence (Even When You’re Not Feeling Cute)

You don’t have to love your body every second of the day. That’s not realistic, chom. But you can learn to stop hating it.

Here’s how to start:

  1. Stop commenting on your own body like it’s a stranger.
“Ugh, Im not feeling myself/my body today.” “I need to lose this part.” Babes, no. That body is literally keeping you alive. Talk to it like it’s yours.
  2. Wear the outfit.
Don’t wait until you’re “ready.” Just wear the damn dress. Or the crop top. Or the shorts. Confidence isn’t something you earn—it’s something you build.
  3. Unfollow the noise.
If a page or person is making you feel like you’re not enough, mute it. Delete it. No apology needed. You get to protect your peace.
  4. Compliment other people without dragging yourself.
Someone else being pretty doesn’t make you less. Your light doesn’t dim just because someone else is shining too.

And On the Days It Feels Hard…

Some days you won’t feel like the main character. That’s okay. But don’t let a mirror, comment, or IG post undo all your work.

You’re still that girl.
Even with bloating.
Even with scars.
Even when you’re not feeling 10/10.

You don’t have to be perfect to be powerful. You just have to show up as you are.
